Back Home Again!
The wooden fish, on the rough background, has returned to St. Peter’s! Originally above the Murphy’s fireplace in their Houston home, it was placed in the hall beside the Church entry doors when they sold their home.
It seemed appropriate to us that something made by Bishop Murphy, from a large piece of wood found on the beach in Galveston, with pieces of rare black wood procured in Jamaica (where he substituted for a priest for one month in one summer), and a special wood for the fish (origin unknown) and put together by him in a highly symbolic hanging, should be in this church.
His children agreed. Mary Loots and husband Rick took it to Fayetteville; Rick polished it up and made it more sturdy. A golden plaque explains its meaning. On the back is a message from Bishop Pat (Gone fishing) with a pen drawing of him done by Mary.
A word of thanks to Mary and Rick. They did not want to mail it. They drove from Fayetteville on Saturday (12 hrs), brought it to church on Sunday and drove home on Monday – in time to miss the mess from tornadoes and to get to work on Tuesday. Our thanks to Fr. Barr for blessing the fish during their presence. It meant a lot to them. ------------------------------------------------------------
Our newsletter needs a name! The name should have a take on St. Peter e.g. The Crowing Rooster or St. Peter's Bull (double points, as Jersey Village was named after the Jersey cow). As you can see, I am no good at this. Please send your suggestions via email or just drop them on my desk when you're here. Fr. John. ----------------------------------------------------------
Fr. Mabry celebrated the mass on Palm Sunday. This was his last celebration of the mass at St. Peter's before his move to New Mexico. ----------------------------------------------------------
Newsletter: Thanks to the efforts of Beverly Dorsett, the church newsletter has a new look and will be launched on a monthly basis beginning in April. If you do not receive yours by the tenth, please let Fr. John know, as it will be his first try with the new mailing list. ----------------------------------------------------------
Address Change: There has long been a problem with finding the church on Google maps, Mapquest, or Bing. When our address is put in the different map engines the church shows up a mile or so in either direction of our location. But, thanks to the efforts of Dean and Andy, we discovered that our map address is 15710 vs. 15700. This small change puts us on the map! Please use the 15710 Northwest Fwy, Houston, TX 77040 address when helping people find the church. -----------------------------------------------------------
